Sun Mar 09 02:05:50 UTC 2025: ## Gujarat Medical Interns Assaulted, Suspended Students Face Charges

**Bhavnagar, Gujarat, March 9, 2025** – Two interns at the Government Medical College in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, were allegedly assaulted and detained by fellow students and a senior, prompting police to file two FIRs and the college to suspend four students.

Ishan Kotak and Aman Joshi, the victims, claim the attacks stemmed from disagreements over their roles in college events and jokes posted on an Instagram page. Joshi alleges he was taken to another room, slapped, verbally abused, and threatened. Kotak and a friend were reportedly forced into a vehicle and assaulted. The accused allegedly expressed anger over jokes Kotak shared on a group Instagram account.

The FIRs filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita include charges of wrongful confinement, causing hurt, insulting to provoke a breach of peace, and using obscene acts and language. Police are investigating, and arrests are yet to be made.

The college administration, classifying the incident as ragging, immediately suspended four students and withheld their certificates. The anti-ragging committee will convene again next week to determine further action. The two interns and a friend are currently hospitalized due to their injuries. The Dean of the college, Dr. Sushil Jha, confirmed the swift action taken against the accused students.
