Sat Mar 08 17:56:03 UTC 2025: ## Social Activist Brutally Assaulted in Tamil Nadu for Preventing Illegal Silt Mining
**TIRUVANNAMALAI, March 8, 2025** – A 49-year-old social activist, T. Jaganathan, was brutally assaulted by a gang in Kadaladi village, Tiruvannamalai district, on Saturday. Jaganathan, a milk vendor known for his environmental activism, intervened to stop the illegal removal of silt from a local irrigation tank.
The assault was allegedly orchestrated by S. Pachiappan (40), a brick kiln owner who needed the silt for his business. Pachiappan, who is currently absconding, allegedly violated stipulated mining limits set by the Department of Mines. Jaganathan’s actions thwarted Pachiappan’s attempt to extract a large quantity of silt using hired workers and tractors.
Police arrived on the scene after receiving an alert, rescuing the injured Jaganathan and transporting him to the Government Taluk Hospital in Kadaladi. His condition is reported to be stable. A case has been registered, and special police teams are actively pursuing Pachiappan’s arrest. Meanwhile, villagers have displayed posters demanding justice for Jaganathan and the arrest of those responsible for the assault. An investigation is underway.
