**Koppal, Karnataka –** A horrific incident unfolded in Koppal, Karnataka, resulting in the alleged gang-rape of an Israeli tourist and a local homestay owner. The incident, which occurred Thursday night, left one of the accompanying male tourists dead.
According to Koppal Superintendent of Police Ram L Arasiddi, three men attacked a group of five individuals – two women (a 27-year-old Israeli tourist and a 29-year-old homestay owner) and three men – near Sanapur while they were stargazing. The attackers, after initially demanding money, pushed the men into the Tungabhadra Left Bank Canal. While two of the men managed to escape, one, Bibash from Odisha, drowned. His body was recovered Saturday morning.
The two women reported being subsequently gang-raped by the assailants. Police have arrested two of the three suspects, and a search is underway for the third. The arrested individuals are facing charges of rape, gang-rape, and robbery.
The victims are currently receiving medical treatment at a government hospital. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has assured the public that the government is committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens, including tourists, and is taking steps to prevent similar incidents. He stated that a thorough investigation is underway.
However, Karnataka BJP President B Y Vijayendra criticized the Congress government, alleging indifference to the rising crime against women in the state. The investigation continues.
