Sun Mar 09 17:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Gavaskar Cautions India Despite Champions Trophy Final Berth

**NEW DELHI** – India secured a thrilling 4-wicket victory over Australia on Tuesday, booking their place in the Champions Trophy 2025 final. However, legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar issued a word of caution, suggesting the team, despite its winning streak, is yet to reach its full potential.

While acknowledging India’s impressive run to the final, Gavaskar highlighted inconsistencies in the performances of key players. He specifically pointed to the lack of consistent starts from openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, and the team’s failure to capitalize on the new ball in the opening ten overs.

“India’s performance hasn’t been flawless,” Gavaskar stated in an interview. “The openers haven’t given the team the starts they should be, and we’re not taking enough wickets with the new ball. We need two or three wickets in the first ten overs, but that’s not happening. We haven’t taken enough wickets in the middle overs either, although we’ve controlled the run flow. There are areas for improvement, and addressing them will significantly improve India’s chances of winning the title.”

Gavaskar also advised against major changes to the playing XI for the final, recommending the retention of four spinners, a strategy that proved successful in recent matches. “I think they should stick with four spinners; why change a winning combination? Playing Kuldeep and Chahal has shown how effective they can be. Wickets are key in any format, and dot balls are crucial. There’s no need for changes,” he said. The final match is eagerly awaited.
