Several prominent news outlets had claimed Ronaldo faced potential prosecution in Iran for allegedly violating Iranian law by embracing a female fan, Fatemeh Hammami, a disabled artist who paints with her feet. These reports suggested he could have faced 99 lashes.

However, the embassy issued a strong denial, stating that “We strongly deny the issuance of any court ruling against any international athlete in Iran.” They further praised Ronaldo’s meeting with Hammami, calling it “sincere and humane,” and highlighting its positive reception by the Iranian people and sports authorities.

Hammami herself previously refuted the allegations through GOAL.com, stating that unemployed lawyers made accusations without her or her family’s permission. She emphasized their gratitude towards Ronaldo and denied any complaints about the incident.

Al Nassr’s coach attributed Ronaldo’s omission from the squad to muscle fatigue, according to the Saudi Gazette. The goalless draw against Esteghlal leaves Al Nassr facing a crucial second leg in their bid to win the Asian Champions League, their last realistic chance for a trophy this season.
