Sat Mar 08 02:50:00 UTC 2025: **Daylight Saving Time Springs Forward This Weekend**

**New York, NY** – Daylight Saving Time (DST) begins this Sunday, March 9th, at 2:00 a.m. EDT, meaning clocks will “spring forward” one hour to 3:00 a.m. This means we lose an hour of sleep, but gain an extra hour of daylight in the evenings.

Digital clocks will adjust automatically, but those who use analog clocks will need to manually reset them. DST ends on November 2nd, when clocks will “fall back” one hour.

While most of Europe observes DST, the practice is not universal. In the U.S., Hawaii and most of Arizona do not observe DST, neither do several U.S. territories. The origins of DST are debated, with some attributing it to Benjamin Franklin, while others point to George Hudson or William Willett. Germany was the first country to officially adopt DST in 1916 during World War I, to conserve fuel. The current U.S. schedule, starting on the second Sunday in March and ending on the first Sunday in November, was established under President George W. Bush.
