**Ahmedabad, Gujarat –** Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing critique of his party’s Gujarat unit on Saturday, demanding a purge of leaders and workers deemed to be secretly working for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Addressing party workers during a two-day visit focused on the upcoming 2027 Assembly elections, Gandhi stated that the party must separate those genuinely committed to Congress ideology from those disconnected from the public and allegedly collaborating with the BJP.
Gandhi stressed the urgency of this internal cleansing, asserting that the people of Gujarat will not trust Congress until this division is addressed. He outlined a plan to revitalize the party, emphasizing the need to reconnect with the public and address the concerns of farmers and struggling industries like diamonds, textiles, and ceramics. He acknowledged the party’s long absence from power in Gujarat, stating that regaining public trust is paramount before seeking electoral success.
The Congress leader highlighted the need for a fundamental shift in approach, urging party members to prioritize serving the people of Gujarat rather than solely focusing on winning elections. He cited the example of Telangana, where a 22% increase in vote share led to power, suggesting a similar 5% boost could bring victory in Gujarat. Gandhi concluded his address by emphasizing the party’s intention to listen to the concerns and aspirations of the people of Gujarat. The upcoming All India Congress Committee (AICC) session scheduled for Ahmedabad in April will further shape the party’s strategy.
