**Chennai, March 8, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu government has defended its failure to reconstitute the State-Level Adi Dravidar Welfare Committee, arguing that the existing Tamil Nadu State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, established in 2021, adequately addresses the welfare needs of Adi Dravidar communities.

This statement comes in response to media reports citing a Right to Information request which revealed the committee’s inactivity since 2020. The government maintains that the Commission effectively monitors and safeguards the welfare of these communities, providing suggestions and solutions. While the Adi Dravidar Welfare Committee was initially formed in 1995 and last reconstituted in 2017, it was neither renewed nor extended. The government contends that the Commission’s existence renders the creation of a separate committee unnecessary.
