VIZIANAGARAM, March 8, 2025 – The Legal Metrology Department in Vizianagaram conducted raids on mobile phone shops across the district on Saturday, targeting vendors who failed to comply with packaging and labeling regulations. Deputy Commissioner B. Madhusudana Reddy stated that all mobile phones must display the date of manufacture, company name, maximum retail price, and customer care number. He emphasized the importance of verifying these details, especially for retailers purchasing phones from multiple suppliers.

The raids, which involved Assistant Commissioner P. V. Ranga Reddy and Inspector M. Damodar Naidu, resulted in the filing of 2789 cases and the collection of ₹98 lakh in compounding fees during the 2024-25 financial year. The department also stressed the importance of accurate weighing practices for essential goods like rice and fertilizers, warning of fines for non-compliance. Public awareness programs are being conducted at Rythu Bazaars and other locations to educate consumers about their rights and encourage them to report inaccurate weighing or tampered machines. The department aims to protect consumers from being cheated, particularly given the high cost of mobile phones.
