Sat Mar 08 02:56:33 UTC 2025: ## Cartel Son Receives Life Sentence in US

**Washington D.C.** – Rubén Oseguera, son of fugitive Jalisco New Generation cartel boss Nemesio Oseguera (“El Mencho”), has been sentenced to life in prison by a US District Court. Oseguera, also known as “El Menchito,” served as the cartel’s second-in-command for seven years before his extradition to the US in 2020. The 35-year-old was convicted in September on charges including conspiracy to distribute cocaine and methamphetamine and using a firearm in a drug conspiracy.

Prosecutors presented evidence linking Oseguera to the murders of at least 100 people, including personally killing at least six and ordering the shooting down of a Mexican military helicopter, resulting in at least nine deaths. They detailed his involvement in trafficking billions of dollars worth of drugs and described him as a “mass murderer.” The court also ordered Oseguera to forfeit over $6 billion in cartel proceeds.

While his defense argued that his upbringing in a violent and corrupt environment contributed to his actions, Judge Beryl Howell stated that his crimes were “among the most serious that our drug laws are designed to address,” rejecting claims he should be treated as a child given his involvement in the cartel since the age of 14.

The US government continues to pursue Nemesio Oseguera, offering a $15 million reward for information leading to his arrest or conviction.
