Sat Mar 08 07:13:06 UTC 2025: ## Maharashtra’s Economy to Surpass National Growth, Boosted by Agriculture and Services

**Mumbai, March 8, 2025** – Maharashtra’s economy is projected to grow at a robust 7.3% in the 2024-25 financial year, outpacing the national growth estimate of 6.5%, according to the state’s pre-Budget Economic Survey presented on Friday. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who holds the finance portfolio, revealed that this growth is driven by strong performance across key sectors.

The agriculture and allied activities sector is expected to see an impressive 8.7% growth, while the industry and services sectors are projected to expand by 4.9% and 7.8%, respectively. The state’s nominal Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) is estimated at ₹45.31 lakh crore, a significant increase from ₹40.55 lakh crore in the previous year. Maharashtra continues to be a major contributor to India’s GDP, accounting for 13.5%.

While per capita income is estimated to rise to ₹3,09,340, Maharashtra still lags behind Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Gujarat. The agricultural sector saw strong kharif season yields, with significant increases in cereal, pulse, oilseed, and cotton production. However, sugarcane production is expected to decline. Rabi season projections show increases in cereal and pulse production but a decrease in oilseed output. The state received abundant rainfall during the monsoon season.

Maharashtra’s contribution to national output extends beyond agriculture, with the state ranking fifth in milk production, seventh in egg production, and third in meat production. It also remains a leader in industrial and social sectors, accounting for a significant share of India’s exports and startups. Maharashtra attracted the highest FDI inflows in the country between October 2019 and September 2024.

The survey also highlighted government spending on healthcare and women’s welfare schemes under initiatives such as the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana and the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme.
