**Mumbai, March 8, 2025** – In a historic first, the Central Railways operated a Vande Bharat Express train with an entirely female crew on International Women’s Day. The CSMT-Shirdi Vande Bharat Express (22223), departing from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, was staffed by women in every role, from loco pilot and assistant loco pilot to train manager, ticket examiners, and on-board catering staff.

This initiative, announced by the Central Railways’ Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Swapnil Nila, celebrates the contributions of women in the Indian Railways. Nila stated that the railway aims to extend this practice to other Vande Bharat trains. A similar all-women crew was also deployed on a goods train.

The event coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s International Women’s Day tribute to “Nari Shakti,” highlighting the achievements of women across various sectors. The Prime Minister announced that his social media accounts would be managed by women throughout the day.

The Central Railways hailed the all-women Vande Bharat Express as a proud moment, showcasing the strength, dedication, and leadership of women within the organization. The train’s journey also saw it pass through Matunga, India’s first all-women operated railway station.
