Sat Mar 08 03:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Yankees Fall to Twins in Spring Training Loss

**TAMPA, FL –** The New York Yankees suffered an 8-4 defeat against the Minnesota Twins in a spring training matchup on Thursday. A shaky pitching performance and offensive struggles plagued the Yankees, despite a late rally fueled by J.C. Escarra.

Ace Gerrit Cole had a rough outing, lasting only 2.2 innings. While he started strong, he ultimately allowed six runs (five earned) on five hits, including two home runs, before being pulled. Matt Wallner’s three-run blast was the biggest blow. Luke Weaver also struggled, surrendering a home run to former Yankee Mike Ford in a brief appearance. In total, the Yankees pitching staff gave up four home runs.

Offensively, the Yankees struggled. Anthony Volpe had a subpar game, going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and committing a fielding error. Aaron Judge, serving as the designated hitter, went 0-for-1 with two walks. However, J.C. Escarra provided a bright spot, driving in two runs with a bloop hit in the seventh and adding a solo home run in the ninth. Escarra, competing for a backup catcher role, continues to impress.

Cody Bellinger, slated to start in center field on Opening Day, looked comfortable in right field, showcasing his defensive versatility.

The Yankees will look to bounce back on Friday night when they host the Toronto Blue Jays at 6:35 p.m.
