Sat Mar 08 10:31:04 UTC 2025: ## Seeman’s Legal Troubles Won’t Deter Naam Tamilar Katchi’s Anti-Periyar Stance, Party Says
**Chennai, March 8, 2025** – Despite the ongoing police investigation into rape allegations against its leader, Seeman, the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) remains steadfast in its criticism of Dravidian icon Periyar E.V. Ramasamy, party officials have confirmed. The party, which is preparing for the 2026 Assembly elections, views its attacks on Periyar as an “ideological battle” and plans to continue its restructuring efforts.
The Supreme Court recently granted an interim stay on the investigation against Seeman following a Madras High Court ruling. NTK spokesperson Idumbavanam Karthik attributed the investigation to Seeman’s outspoken criticism of Periyar, claiming it’s an act of revenge. He stated that party members are energized by the opportunity to challenge Periyar’s legacy in Tamil Nadu.
While acknowledging that most major Tamil Nadu parties (except the BJP) revere Periyar, Karthik asserted that Periyar’s ideology doesn’t significantly influence electoral politics today. Therefore, he believes the party’s anti-Periyar stance won’t impact their electoral prospects.
A close aide to Seeman, Packiarasan Se, reiterated the party’s commitment to contesting the elections independently on a Tamil nationalist platform, ruling out any alliance formation. The NTK is also proceeding with its internal restructuring, establishing new party districts based on groups of 100 polling booths.
