**COIMBATORE, INDIA (March 8, 2025)** – Renowned artist V. Jeevananthan has unveiled a moving mural of late social activist VG Jagadeesh, known as “Jaggu,” at a new inclusive park in Kalapatti, Coimbatore. The painting is part of a larger series featuring individuals who have overcome physical limitations, including Helen Keller, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Vincent van Gogh. Jeevananthan, also a film critic and writer, painted the mural in the presence of Jaggu’s parents, creating an emotionally charged atmosphere.
The park, a project of the Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC) funded by Bosch, is designed to provide a safe and accessible play space for children of all abilities. According to RAAC secretary R. Raveendran, the park addresses a significant need in the city for inclusive recreational areas. The one-acre facility will feature 33 pieces of play equipment and an “Art Abode” offering art and craft classes. The park is scheduled to open later this month.
Jeevananthan has completed 13 portraits in the series and plans to add five more. He works without grids or measurements, completing each painting in approximately two hours. He described the project as a contribution to the city he loves. The artist’s work spans various mediums, from film banners to digital art and book illustrations, but this project holds a special significance.
