Fri Mar 07 20:23:00 UTC 2025: ## Cadillac Officially Joins Formula 1 in 2026
**London, March 8, 2025** – Cadillac’s Formula 1 team has received final approval to join the grid in 2026, marking a significant expansion of the series. The FIA and Formula One Management confirmed Friday that the team, owned by General Motors and TWG Motorsports, meets all requirements to become the 11th team.
The addition of Cadillac, the second American-owned team after Haas F1, is hailed as a “milestone” and “transformative moment” by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem. The team’s entry underscores Formula 1’s growing popularity in the US, where three races are now held annually.
Cadillac’s entry follows a lengthy approval process, overcoming challenges related to previous attempts by Andretti Global. The team, however, will initially lease engines from Ferrari while its own powertrains are developed at a new facility in North Carolina. The F1 program will operate from a new facility in Indiana and a second factory in Silverstone, England.
TWG Motorsports, which also owns stakes in various sports teams, is investing heavily in the Cadillac F1 project, including building a 2026 car already tested in a wind tunnel. The team is rapidly expanding its workforce and has appointed Graeme Lowdon as team principal and Russ O’Blenes as CEO of TWG GM Performance Power Units.
While the driver lineup remains unconfirmed, IndyCar driver Colton Herta is a potential candidate, along with several drivers who are currently without F1 seats.
The arrival of Cadillac is viewed positively by Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali, who emphasized the team’s contribution to pushing motorsport boundaries and attracting new fans. The team is expected to be distinctively American, leveraging its partnership with General Motors and potentially featuring an American driver.
