Fri Mar 07 19:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Auburn Fires Women’s Basketball Coach Johnnie Harris After SEC Tournament Loss

**AUBURN, Ala. —** Auburn University has fired women’s basketball head coach Johnnie Harris just one day after the Tigers’ first-round exit from the SEC tournament. The decision comes after a disappointing 12-18 season, including a 3-13 SEC record, culminating in a 60-50 loss to Florida. The loss marked Auburn’s seventh consecutive defeat.

Harris, who spent four seasons at the helm, compiled a 58-63 overall record. While she led the team to its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2019 last season (a 20-12 record), this year’s performance saw the Tigers finish in a four-way tie for last place in the SEC.

Auburn Athletic Director John Cohen released a statement expressing his respect for Harris but citing the need for a change in direction for the program. Cohen noted his long-standing relationship with Harris, having worked with her at Mississippi State.

Harris’s tenure included a 10-18 debut season followed by a 16-15 record and then a promising 20-12 campaign in 2023-24. However, the team’s significant downturn this year ultimately led to her dismissal. The search for a new head coach is underway.
