Sat Mar 08 12:55:55 UTC 2025: **Tiruppur Railway Station to Get Third Platform as Part of ₹22 Crore Upgrade**

TIRUPPUR, March 8, 2025 – Tiruppur Railway Station is set to receive a third platform as part of an ongoing ₹22 crore redevelopment project under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The Salem Division’s Divisional Railway Manager, Pankaj Kumar Sinha, announced the plan at a recent Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC) meeting.

The decision to add a platform reflects the station’s growing importance as a transportation hub for Tiruppur’s thriving knitwear industry. The Railways considered the city’s significant export volumes, foreign exchange generation, and substantial employment opportunities when planning the expansion.

Over 80% of the station’s renovation is already complete. The upgrade includes a new terminal building with improved amenities, wider concourses and entrances to alleviate congestion, and upgraded waiting areas and restrooms. Future phases will also see the addition of a VIP AC lounge and possibly a Rail Coach Restaurant. A feasibility study for the latter is currently underway.

The Divisional Railway Manager also hinted at the possibility of a second terminal between Tiruppur and Irugur Junction stations, contingent on the completion of the Kaniyur Multi-Model Logistics Park. The project, initiated on August 6, 2023, is one of 25 stations across Southern Railway undergoing similar upgrades.
