Fri Mar 07 16:20:00 UTC 2025: **Fort Bragg Name Restored After One-Year Hiatus**

STUTTGART, Germany – In a surprise announcement, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has reversed the name change of Fort Liberty, restoring the base’s original designation as Fort Bragg. The decision, made in a memorandum signed aboard a C-17 aircraft en route to Stuttgart on February 10th, 2025, marks an abrupt end to the “Fort Liberty” era which began in 2023.

The renaming of the base to Fort Liberty cost an estimated $7 million, and reversing the change is expected to incur millions more in costs. The Secretary’s decision comes without immediate public explanation for the reversal.

The name change back to Fort Bragg is effective immediately.
