Fri Mar 07 15:26:35 UTC 2025: ## Gaza Residents Defiant in Face of Trump’s Threats
**Gaza City** – President Donald Trump’s threats to unleash further violence on Gaza have been met with apathy and defiance by residents already devastated by 16 months of war. Trump’s warning that all Gazans would be “dead” if hostages are not released has been dismissed by many as yet another instance of collective punishment.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, several Gazans expressed exhaustion and skepticism towards international efforts, highlighting the widespread destruction, displacement, and dire humanitarian crisis facing the population. One former clothing merchant, Yasser al-Sharafa, whose life’s work was destroyed during the conflict, stated, “Everywhere you look is destruction… Is there anything left for us to grieve? Trump or whoever, it makes no difference.”
Others echoed this sentiment. Jamila Mahmoud, 62, believes Trump’s threats are a form of psychological warfare aimed at forcing people out of Gaza. She defiantly declared, “I will remain on my land, even if it’s just the rubble of my home, no matter what.”
While some, like Ayman Abu Dayyeh, urged Hamas to negotiate and release the hostages to alleviate the suffering, many doubt that this would end the cycle of violence. The overwhelming feeling is one of despair and a loss of faith in the international community’s ability or willingness to intervene effectively. Abu Dayyeh, who lost two sons in the conflict, poignantly stated, “The Arab states are silent, and the Europeans are silent. How can we continue fighting without any supporters?”
The prevailing mood amongst Gaza’s residents is one of resignation, with many feeling they have nothing left to lose. The sheer scale of destruction and loss of life has left them numb to further threats, emphasizing the urgent need for a lasting solution and an end to the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
