Fri Mar 07 18:05:15 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Bolsters Wildlife Care with New Veterinary Posts
**Chennai, March 8, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu government has announced the creation of new veterinary positions to improve the medical care of rescued wild animals and enhance the state’s response to human-wildlife conflict. The order, issued by Additional Chief Secretary Supriya Sahu, establishes posts for veterinary assistant surgeons, livestock inspectors, and Animal Husbandry assistants, all to be filled through internal departmental deputations.
The initiative will significantly strengthen wildlife rescue operations across the state. Key deployments include: two veterinary assistant surgeons each for Kurumbapatti Zoo (covering Namakkal and Salem districts) and the Srivilliputhur Megamalai Tiger Reserve; one each for the Kodaikanal Wildlife Sanctuary and the Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve; and two for the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, supporting both the Sadivayal elephant camp and a planned rehabilitation center in Coimbatore. Two additional veterinary assistant surgeons will serve the Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, and Tirupathur divisions, including Amirthi Zoo. Matching numbers of livestock inspectors and Animal Husbandry assistants will also be assigned to these locations.
This strategic allocation of personnel aims to provide timely and effective medical attention to injured or distressed wild animals, ultimately improving wildlife conservation efforts within the state.
