**Nagarkurnool, Telangana, March 7, 2025** – A renewed search effort is underway for eight workers missing since February 22nd following the partial collapse of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Domalapenta, Nagarkurnool district. On the 14th day of the rescue operation, two specialized cadaver dogs, flown in from Kerala, were deployed Friday to assist in locating the missing individuals.
A team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), accompanied by the sniffer dogs, entered the collapsed tunnel. A senior state government official indicated that a potential location where the workers may be trapped has been identified based on the dogs’ indication. The official expressed confidence that this location could lead to a breakthrough.
Over 18 agencies have been working continuously since the initial collapse, but until now, there has been no significant progress. Desilting efforts are ongoing, with the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and Rat miners actively involved in clearing debris. The introduction of a general manager from SCCL has reportedly improved the efficiency of these efforts.
Additionally, efforts are underway to utilize robots to explore hazardous areas within the tunnel and remove metal from the damaged Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). Teams from the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), and Geological Survey of India (GSI) are also conducting ground surveys. The NCS has begun installing monitoring instruments.
