Fri Mar 07 15:31:11 UTC 2025: ## Journalist Warns of Eroding Human Rights at Inaugural Memorial Lecture
**Kozhikode, Kerala, March 7, 2025** – A new lecture series honoring the late Father Thomas Anthraper SJ, a renowned Jesuit priest and educator, was launched Friday at St. Joseph’s Boys’ Higher Secondary School in Kozhikode. The series, a joint effort by the school and the St. Joseph’s Alumni Association, aims to address societal challenges threatening fundamental rights.
Journalist Vinod K. Jose delivered the inaugural lecture, titled “Protecting human dignity: the struggle for rights and freedom.” Jose painted a grim picture of the current global climate, characterizing it as an era of warmongering and the formation of cartels undermining human rights. He warned that many nations are moving towards a bleak future where criminals escape punishment while innocents are unjustly imprisoned. He stressed the importance of recognizing the abnormal state of affairs as the first step towards positive change.
The event, inaugurated by E.P. John, provincial of the Kerala Jesuit Society, and presided over by school principal Father M.F. Anto, also included the recognition of winners of the Father Thomas Anthraper memorial paper presentation. Organizers emphasized the need for collective societal responsibility in upholding justice and human dignity. The lecture series promises to continue shedding light on these crucial issues.
