**New Delhi, March 7, 2025** – The Indian government will build a memorial for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal, following approval from his family. Singh’s family has formally accepted the proposed 900-square-meter site, located adjacent to the memorial of former President Pranab Mukherjee.
The next step involves establishing a trust to oversee the memorial’s construction. The family will nominate the trust’s members, after which the government will provide a Rs 25 lakh grant. Central Public Works Department officials have already inspected the site.
Singh, who passed away on December 26, 2024, at the age of 92, is widely regarded as the architect of India’s economic reforms. His funeral, held at Nigambodh Ghat, was attended by prominent figures including President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The choice of funeral location had previously drawn criticism from the Congress party.
