**London, March 6, 2025** – The United Kingdom strongly condemned a security breach that occurred during Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit on Wednesday. A pro-Khalistan supporter attempted to breach the security perimeter surrounding the Minister’s vehicle as he departed Chatham House, a London think tank.
While the Metropolitan Police swiftly apprehended the protester, no arrests were made. A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) stated that while the UK upholds the right to peaceful protest, attempts to intimidate or disrupt public events are unacceptable. They emphasized the UK’s commitment to ensuring the security of diplomatic visitors.
The incident unfolded after Jaishankar concluded talks with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, covering bilateral ties and the relaunched Free Trade Agreement negotiations. Footage of the event, shared on social media by the community organization INSIGHT UK, showed the protester rushing towards the Minister’s car, waving a flag and chanting pro-Khalistan slogans.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also condemned the security lapse, calling on the UK to fulfill its diplomatic obligations to protect visiting dignitaries. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal denounced the “provocative activities” of the separatist group and the misuse of democratic freedoms. The incident occurred despite a significant police presence outside Chatham House.
