Fri Mar 07 17:03:31 UTC 2025: ## DMK Threatens to Forfeit Deposits in 2026 Elections Over BJP Policies
**Chennai, March 7, 2025** – The DMK has issued a strong warning to the BJP, threatening to forfeit deposits in all 234 Assembly seats in the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections if the central government continues its “anti-people policies.”
DMK principal secretary Durai Vaiko leveled the accusation at a press conference in Chennai today. He cited insufficient funding for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) as a key grievance. Vaiko stated that the allocation of ₹86,000 crore over the past two years is inadequate, arguing that at least ₹2 lakh crore is needed for the scheme’s successful implementation. He also highlighted delays in salary payments and insufficient workdays for beneficiaries. The lack of a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for agricultural produce was also criticized.
Furthermore, Vaiko condemned the BJP’s alleged campaign against English in northern India and criticized the disproportionate funding allocated to Sanskrit development compared to Tamil and other regional languages. He pointed out that only 20,000 people speak Sanskrit in India, yet the Union government has sanctioned several crores for its development, while significantly less funding is provided for other languages. He also expressed concern over the additional burden of language policies on students already facing pressure from examinations like NEET.
