Fri Mar 07 14:01:36 UTC 2025: ## Greater Mysuru City Corporation Formation on Track Despite Budget Silence

**Mysuru, March 7, 2025** – While the Karnataka State Budget, presented Friday, made no mention of the highly anticipated Greater Mysuru City Corporation (GMCC), Congress leaders remain confident of its imminent creation. The expansion is expected to significantly increase the city’s area from 89 sq km to 382 sq km, boosting the number of wards from 65 to 120.

KPCC spokesperson M. Lakshman stated that Additional Chief Secretary L.K. Atheeq will soon visit Mysuru to discuss the GMCC’s formation with local officials. He explained that the Cabinet can approve the proposal even without explicit budget allocation. The GMCC’s creation is linked to the postponement of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) elections.

The expansion will incorporate areas currently under Hootagalli CMC and several town panchayats, addressing civic issues like road repairs, underground drainage, street lighting, and water supply in newly developed layouts. These issues have become increasingly pressing since the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) transferred these layouts to local bodies.

Concerns regarding funding for the Kabini drinking water project’s phases 2 and 3 (requiring ₹150 crore) were also addressed. Mr. Lakshman clarified that funding for ongoing projects doesn’t necessitate budget announcement, adding that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has already released ₹36 crore, with the remainder to follow. Other major infrastructure demands for Mysuru, including flyovers and a peripheral ring road, remain under consideration.
