**Mayiladuthurai, March 7, 2025** – A major crackdown on illegal liquor smuggling and sales in Mayiladuthurai district has resulted in the arrest of 93 individuals over an 11-day period. The Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW), acting on the directives of Superintendent of Police K. Stalin, intensified vehicle checks at various checkpoints across the district between February 23 and March 5.
The operation, overseen by Deputy Superintendent of Police M. Sundaresan, led to the registration of 83 cases and the seizure of 750 bottles of liquor, including 450 bottles from Puducherry and 300 bottles of illicit arrack. While most of the arrested were granted bail, 10 individuals implicated in larger smuggling operations were remanded to custody. These individuals are: Prabhakaran (40), Balamurugan (31), Panneerselvam (65), Balasubramanian (26), Palaniselvam (48), Jeeva (60), Ayyappan (39), Mani (54), Marimuthu (53), and Nagarajan (65). Their respective addresses were also provided. The intensified efforts highlight the district’s commitment to curbing illegal liquor activities.
