Thu Mar 06 11:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Arizona Braces for Major Winter Storm, Weather Action Day Declared

**PHOENIX, AZ** – Arizonans are urged to prepare for a significant winter storm expected to impact the state Thursday and Friday. The National Weather Service has issued warnings and advisories across much of the state, including a Weather Action Day for Friday.

The storm will bring a dramatic drop in temperatures, strong winds, and widespread rain and snow. Valley residents can expect light showers Thursday morning (8 a.m. to 11 a.m.), while northern areas will see rain and snow impacting the morning commute. Wind gusts could reach 35 mph in the Valley and 45 to 55 mph in the high country, prompting Wind Advisories for several areas, including the Mogollon Rim and parts of Yuma and La Paz counties. Blowing dust is also anticipated in western Arizona.

Friday will bring another round of precipitation, with the Valley potentially seeing 0.1 to 0.25 inches of rain. However, significant snowfall is expected in northern Arizona, particularly along the Mogollon Rim (2-6 inches) and potentially much more in Flagstaff, which has seen only 8.5 inches of snow so far this season. Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for these areas, warning of hazardous travel conditions due to snow-covered roads and reduced visibility.

The storm is expected to clear by the weekend, but another potential system is forecast for Tuesday, bringing the possibility of further temperature drops, strong winds, and more rain and snow. Residents are advised to monitor weather forecasts closely and limit travel, especially in high-elevation areas.
