**Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, March 6, 2025** – A 40-year-old man, Mohit Mishra, has been arrested for the murder of his five-year-old daughter, Tani, in Sitapur district, Uttar Pradesh Police announced today. Mishra had initially reported Tani missing on February 25th.
The discovery of a child’s severed leg and other body parts in a mustard field the following day triggered a police investigation. The remains were identified as Tani’s, and a post-mortem confirmed she had been strangled.
Following an intensified investigation by Rampur Mathura police and the Special Operations Group (SOG), Mishra confessed to the crime. He claimed his anger stemmed from a dispute with a neighbour, Ramu. After seeing Tani disobey his orders and visit Ramu’s house on February 25th, Mishra took her to a secluded area outside the village and strangled her. Wild animals subsequently mutilated the body.
Mishra abandoned his mobile phone and initially went into hiding, but his suspicious behavior ultimately led to his arrest and confession. He has been charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and remanded to jail.
