**Vijayawada, March 6, 2025** – Andhra Pradesh’s Water Resources Minister, Nimmala Ramanaidu, has dismissed allegations by the Telangana government that Andhra Pradesh is illegally diverting water. He stated that Telangana’s complaints to the Union Jal Sakthi Ministry are politically motivated and baseless.
Ramanaidu asserted that Andhra Pradesh is only utilizing its legally allocated share of water from the Krishna River, as determined by the Krishna Tribunal (512 TMCft out of 811 TMCft). He emphasized that the state’s irrigation projects are designed to utilize excess floodwater that would otherwise flow into the sea, benefiting drought-prone regions like Rayalaseema and fluoride-affected areas in Prakasam district. He cited the example of 871 TMCft of water flowing into the sea from the Prakasam Barrage in 2024-25, water that could have been used for irrigation.
The Minister further highlighted that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has consistently worked for the welfare of both Telugu states, citing his past opposition to an illegal Maharashtra project on the Godavari River. Ramanaidu specifically denied claims of Andhra Pradesh diverting 10,000 cusecs of water daily. This statement follows recent appeals from the Telangana government concerning Andhra Pradesh’s irrigation projects. Chief Minister Naidu recently reiterated the state’s strategy to utilize excess water currently flowing into the sea.
