**Chennai, March 6, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu government unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of women in the state, ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8th. The announcements highlight significant financial aid and policy changes designed to empower women across various sectors.

Key measures announced include:

* **Loan Waivers:** Loans totaling ₹2,755 crore were waived for 15.88 lakh women associated with 1.17 lakh self-help groups.
* **Marriage Assistance:** ₹1,047 crore in marriage assistance was provided to approximately 1.26 lakh women.
* **Increased Maternity Leave:** Maternity leave for women employees has been extended from nine to twelve months since 2021.
* **Enhanced Government Service Reservation:** The reservation for women in government services has been increased from 30% to 40%.
* **Financial Support for Women Entrepreneurs:** Loans amounting to ₹331 crore were disbursed to over 11,900 working women, and ₹191 crore to 32,300 women entrepreneurs. Additional loans totaling ₹6,265 crore were provided to 1.25 lakh self-help groups. Support was also provided through the Tamil Nadu Startup Seed Grant Fund.
* **Improved Safety Measures:** Thirty-nine new all-women police stations were established to combat crimes against women. The government also launched the “AVAL” (Avoid Violence Through Awareness and Learning) initiative to enhance women’s safety.
* **Temple Appointments:** Eleven women odhuvars (priests) were appointed in temples.
* **Childcare Facilities:** Creches established across 17 SIPCOT campuses benefit the children of approximately 3.23 lakh women workers.
