Thu Mar 06 15:59:35 UTC 2025: ## CPI(M) Kerala Conference Focuses on Combating Communalism and Boosting Development
**Kollam, Kerala – March 6, 2025** – The 24th State Conference of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] opened in Kollam today, with a strong emphasis on countering communal forces and furthering economic development in Kerala.
In his opening address, State Secretary M.V. Govindan presented a political-organizational report highlighting the party’s concern over increasing communal polarization. He cited the Muslim League’s alliance with groups like the SDPI and Jamaat-e-Islami as a response to the CPI(M)’s growing influence among minority communities. Govindan warned that these actions, while seemingly targeting the CPI(M), risk undermining the Muslim League’s own base and ultimately pushing minority communities towards theocratic ideologies. He also noted the shifting political alliances, with the BJP increasingly benefiting from votes previously cast for the Congress-led UDF.
The report also identified the Church’s Auxiliary for Social Action (CASA) as an RSS front organization, allegedly attempting to spread anti-Muslim sentiment among Christians to divide minority communities and benefit the BJP. The CPI(M) further criticized the BJP-led central government for attempting to hinder Kerala’s development and welfare programs through economic pressure and the negative portrayal of the state government by sections of the right-wing media.
The party plans to implement programs to counter these communal efforts and promote women’s empowerment and palliative care.
Separately, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan unveiled a six-part document, “New Pathways for a Nava Keralam,” outlining plans to improve the quality of life in Kerala, aiming for the standards of developed or semi-developed nations. This includes initiatives to build a knowledge society and generate 20 lakh jobs, leveraging projects like the Vizhinjam International Seaport and the Kochi-Coimbatore industrial corridor.
Govindan expressed confidence that the implementation of the plans outlined in both reports would secure a third term for the LDF government.
