Thu Mar 06 15:17:35 UTC 2025: ## Madurai Court Reserves Order on Bail Plea in Sattankulam Custodial Death Case
**Madurai, March 6, 2025** – The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday reserved its order on the bail application of Raghu Ganesh, one of the accused in the 2020 Sattankulam custodial deaths case. Ganesh is accused in the deaths of trader P. Jayaraj and his son J. Benicks.
Justice K. Murali Shankar heard arguments from both sides before reserving the order. The CBI’s Special Public Prosecutor informed the court that the Investigating Officer’s testimony, expected to be the last in the trial, is currently underway in the Madurai First Additional District and Sessions Court. The bail plea was opposed by Selvarani, the wife of Jayaraj and mother of Benicks.
The CBI filed charges against nine police officers in September 2020, including Ganesh, following the deaths. One accused, Special sub-inspector Pauldurai, died of COVID-19. The trial continues.
