**Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir –** Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal unveiled the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA)’s golden jubilee song at a Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways event in Srinagar on Thursday. The song commemorates the port’s 50-year journey, transforming from a small roadstead to a major regional shipping hub handling 46 million metric tonnes annually, up from a mere one lakh tonnes at its inauguration in January 1975.
The musical tribute blends traditional and contemporary styles, reflecting the region’s cultural heritage and the port’s growth. NMPA’s golden jubilee celebrations will continue throughout the year, including the inauguration of a 150-bed port hospital (a public-private partnership), and the release of a commemorative stamp, coin, and coffee table book. Several port development projects and corporate social responsibility initiatives benefiting the local community are also planned.
Minister of State Shantanu Thakur and NMPA Chairman A.V. Ramana attended the song launch. The NMPA serves as Karnataka’s key maritime gateway.
