Thu Mar 06 13:20:49 UTC 2025: ## CPI Leader Released After Arrest in LG Polymers Case

**Visakhapatnam, March 6, 2025** – J.V. Satyanarayana Murthy, assistant secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) Andhra Pradesh unit, was released from Visakhapatnam Central Prison on Thursday. Mr. Murthy had been arrested last Friday for allegedly violating COVID-19 protocols during a protest at the LG Polymers plant, demanding justice for victims of a styrene monomer leak.

Upon his release, Mr. Murthy denounced his arrest as a “vindictive measure,” claiming he was arrested despite his intention to apply for recall of the arrest warrant the following day. He stated that the judge was unavailable on the day he initially went to court. He further alleged that the Gopalapatnam Police refused to acknowledge his plans. The matter, he said, will be discussed at an upcoming party meeting.

CPI district secretary M. Pydiraju echoed these sentiments, criticizing the police for allegedly changing their requirements for bail sureties, first accepting cash and then rejecting it, demanding sureties from Central government employees instead. He too characterized the arrest as vindictive.

Mr. Murthy was welcomed by numerous CPI leaders and cadre upon his release from prison.
