Thu Mar 06 11:05:57 UTC 2025: **Andhra Pradesh Suffers ₹50,000 Crore Loss Due to Polavaram Project Delays**

VIJAYAWADA, March 6, 2025 – Andhra Pradesh’s Water Resources Minister, Nimmala Ramanaidu, has attributed a nearly ₹50,000 crore loss to delays in the Polavaram irrigation project. Speaking in the Legislative Council, he blamed the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government’s governance for the setbacks. He claimed that had the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) remained in power after 2019, the project would have been completed, bringing water to Rayalaseema and North Andhra and boosting agricultural output.

The minister highlighted the need for a new diaphragm wall, costing an additional ₹1,000 crore, due to damage attributed to human error by IIT Hyderabad experts. Construction on this wall began January 18, 2025, and is expected to be completed by December 2025. The government aims to finish the entire Polavaram project by December 2027. Work on the ECRF dam will commence after the diaphragm wall issue is resolved.
