**Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu –** Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister Anitha R. Radhakrishnan met with protesting fishermen in Thangachimadam near Rameswaram on Monday, assuring them of state government intervention. The fishermen, whose protest entered its fourth day, are demanding action regarding a unspecified issue requiring Union government intervention.

Minister Radhakrishnan emphasized the state government’s support for the fishing community, stating that while the central government holds primary responsibility, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has pushed for swift action to resolve the matter. He promised increased compensation for seized boats within days and a meeting between Union Ministers and fishermen representatives.

Despite the Minister’s assurances, fishermen leader Jesu Raja indicated the protest would continue until a Union government representative meets with them or a statement guaranteeing their demands are met is released. The fishermen previously staged a protest involving seeking alms and operating a gruel center. The protest highlights ongoing tensions between the fishing community and the central government over an unspecified issue.
