Tue Mar 04 01:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Brewers Ink Veteran Lefty Jose Quintana to One-Year Deal

**MILWAUKEE, WI –** The Milwaukee Brewers are adding veteran left-handed pitcher Jose Quintana to their roster, according to a report by FanSided’s Robert Murray. While the team has yet to officially confirm the deal, the signing brings a seasoned starter with a proven track record to the Brewers’ pitching rotation.

Quintana, 35, enjoyed a strong 2024 season with the New York Mets, making 31 starts and posting a 3.75 ERA over 170 1/3 innings. After a slow start, he finished the season exceptionally strong, boasting a 2.77 ERA in his final 18 starts, including a remarkable five-start stretch where he allowed just one earned run across 32 innings. His postseason contributions were also significant, featuring scoreless starts against both the Brewers and Phillies.

The move is particularly noteworthy given Quintana’s history of success against Milwaukee. In 23 career appearances (22 starts) against the Brewers, he has compiled a stellar 2.98 ERA and 131 strikeouts in 130 innings. However, this year he’ll be on the other side of that rivalry.

While his strikeout numbers have declined in recent years, Quintana compensates with his ability to avoid hard contact and induce weak contact. Despite a relatively low fastball velocity (90.9 mph, ninth percentile in MLB), he effectively utilizes his changeup, curveball, and slurve to keep hitters off balance.

Quintana’s journey through Major League Baseball has seen him play for seven different teams in 13 seasons, notably spending his first nine years with the Chicago White Sox. After a stint with the Cubs, he bounced between the Angels and Giants before finding success again as a starter with the Pirates and Cardinals. A strong performance with St. Louis in 2022 earned him a multi-year deal with the Mets. Following a 2023 season hampered by injury, he returned to form in 2024, proving to be a valuable asset for the Mets’ rotation. Now, he brings that experience and reliability to Milwaukee.
