KOCHI, KERALA – March 4, 2025 – A special fast-track court in Perumbavoor, Kerala, has handed down sentences to five men convicted of the gang rape of a 14-year-old girl. The incident, which occurred in 2020, involved multiple attacks by the accused, all migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh, who lured the victim with the promise of a SIM card.
The court sentenced the men – Farhad Khan, Haroon Khan, Ashu, Faheem, and Shahid – to varying terms of imprisonment, including three life sentences. Haroon Khan received 40 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine, while Farhad Khan received life imprisonment and additional lengthy prison terms and fines in separate cases. Shahid Khan received a life sentence and additional prison time. Ashu received a 40-year sentence and a fine, and Faheem received double life imprisonment, additional prison time, and fines.
The case, investigated by a team led by the Ernakulam Central Assistant Commissioner of Police and later the Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner of Police, resulted in eight separate chargesheets. The convictions are based on five of these chargesheets, with trials on the remaining cases pending. The prosecution was led by Special Prosecutor Sindhu. The sentences reflect the severity of the crime and underscore the court’s commitment to protecting children from sexual offences under the POCSO Act.
