Mon Mar 03 20:22:00 UTC 2025: **Madhya Pradesh Minister Defends Controversial “Begging” Remarks, Faces State-Wide Congress Protests**
Bhopal, March 4, 2025 – Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Prahlad Patel is facing widespread condemnation after his remarks that people have grown accustomed to “begging” the government. While Patel maintains his statement, made at a caste event on March 1st, was not controversial, the Congress party has announced state-wide protests demanding his resignation.
Patel, a former Union Minister, made the comments during a gathering in Rajgarh district, criticizing the practice of handing petitions directly to politicians. He further stated that he frequently speaks out against drug use and greed within his own caste.
Congress leader Jitu Patwari immediately denounced the remarks, characterizing them as representative of the BJP’s overall mindset and calling for Patel’s resignation. The party’s media in-charge, Mukesh Nayak, announced protests at district headquarters across Madhya Pradesh starting March 5th, vowing to continue until Patel steps down.
Patel, however, defended his statement in an interview with ANI, claiming both BJP and Congress members were present at the event and accusing Patwari of seeking publicity. He reiterated his commitment to fighting drug abuse and greed. The BJP leadership has yet to publicly respond to the controversy.
