**TIRUNELVELI, March 4, 2025** – The body of Vignesh Nagarajan (31), a Tamil Nadu native shot and killed during a robbery in Jamaica, arrived in his hometown of Meenakshipuram on Tuesday. Nagarajan, who worked at JK Food Mart in the Turks and Caicos Islands, was among several employees targeted in a December 18th armed robbery. He died at the scene, while two colleagues sustained serious injuries.
Procedural delays hampered the repatriation process, but intervention by the Tamil Nadu State Government and the Indian Embassy in Jamaica finally facilitated the return of his remains. The body was transported from Jamaica to New York, then to Thiruvananthapuram before reaching Tirunelveli.
Nagarajan’s cousin received the body in Thiruvananthapuram and transported it to Meenakshipuram using a state government hearse. Family, local officials including Tirunelveli MP C. Robert Bruce and Palayamkottai MLA M. Abdul Wahab, and a large, emotionally charged crowd paid their respects before the cremation ceremony. MP Bruce specifically highlighted his sustained efforts with the Ministry of External Affairs to secure the return of Nagarajan’s remains.
