**Chennai, March 4, 2025** – A heated online exchange erupted between DMK leader Kanimozhi and BJP state president K. Annamalai over the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) in Tamil Nadu.
Kanimozhi accused the BJP of manipulating data and withholding ₹2,152 crore in Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan funds allocated to the state. She highlighted Tamil Nadu’s successful education initiatives like Illam Thedi Kalvi and Ennum Ezhuthum, contrasting them with what she described as BJP-ruled states’ struggles with literacy. She further criticized the Kendriya Vidyalayas’ (KV) language policy, questioning the lack of Tamil teachers and the removal of foreign languages in favor of Hindi and Sanskrit.
Annamalai countered that the DMK’s claims were misleading, asserting that the education standards in Tamil Nadu are deteriorating. He noted that several NEP recommendations were implemented in other states before Tamil Nadu and questioned the DMK’s commitment to a three-language policy, highlighting disparities in language offerings between government and private schools. He also challenged the DMK’s claim that the state’s initiatives were separate from the NEP. The dispute underscores the ongoing political tension between the ruling DMK and the opposition BJP in Tamil Nadu over education policies.
