**JAIPUR, INDIA** – Abhey Singh, better known as “IIT Baba” following his viral appearance at the Maha Kumbh festival, is facing charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act after police seized 1.5 grams of marijuana from him. Singh claims the substance was “prasad,” a religious offering, and argues that numerous seers openly possessed similar substances at the Kumbh Mela.
The arrest stems from a bizarre incident where police visited Singh’s hotel after receiving a tip he threatened suicide on social media. Police say Singh admitted to consuming marijuana and produced the substance when questioned. Singh denies the suicide threat, claiming police used it as a pretext to search him and bring charges.
A new video has surfaced showing Singh criticizing the FIR, questioning the legality of the seizure given the alleged widespread use of marijuana at the Maha Kumbh. He maintains his innocence, pointing to the open consumption of the substance by other seers during the festival.
This latest incident adds to a string of controversies surrounding IIT Baba. He recently alleged assault during a television debate and staged a brief protest outside a police station before withdrawing his complaint. Previously, he was banned from the Juna Akhara camp at the Maha Kumbh for allegedly abusing his guru. The case is currently under investigation.
