**Mysuru, March 4, 2025** – Increased investment in science and technology is vital for India’s national development, Dinesh A. Nagegowda, chief scientist at CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, asserted on Tuesday. Delivering the National Science Day 2025 lecture at Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Dr. Nagegowda highlighted the theme, “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for Viksit Bharat.”
Dr. Nagegowda emphasized that developed nations’ success stems from their commitment to research and innovation, urging India to similarly prioritize and significantly increase funding for scientific endeavors. He stressed the critical role of young people in scientific advancements, encouraging them to pursue impactful discoveries that can benefit the nation.
The lecture, held to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by C.V. Raman on February 28, 1928, also touched upon India’s lack of Nobel laureates in Physics since independence. Dr. Nagegowda called on students and researchers to strive for groundbreaking achievements to bolster India’s scientific legacy and economic growth. KSOU Vice-Chancellor Sharanappa V. Halase was among those present at the event.
