**Chennai, March 5, 2025** – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin today defended DMK functionaries running schools that offer Hindi instruction as part of the CBSE curriculum, stating that any Hindi teaching in these schools falls under the purview of the central government’s education policy, not the school owners. His remarks come in response to criticism over the teaching of Hindi in schools operated by DMK members.
Stalin rejected calls to release a list of BJP supporters allegedly involved in the “selling of education” for generations, arguing that this was not his objective. He highlighted that thousands of private schools following the State Board syllabus do not adhere to a three-language formula and do not mandate Hindi instruction. He accused the BJP of hypocrisy, claiming they were aware of this situation yet selectively targeted DMK-affiliated schools.
The Chief Minister further asserted that the quality of education in Tamil Nadu’s government schools surpasses that of many Hindi-speaking states in northern India. He cited positive feedback from educationists regarding the infrastructure, facilities, and the Dravidian model government’s commitment to skill development without language imposition.
Stalin invoked Mahatma Gandhi’s support for mutual language learning between South and North India, questioning why institutions promoting South Indian languages in the North are lacking, in contrast to the presence of Hindi teaching institutions in the South. He sharply criticized the BJP, accusing them of harboring a secret plan to undermine Tamil and other regional languages, claiming that their actions contradict Gandhi’s vision and their past broken promises.
