**KOCHI, March 4, 2025** – A new insurance scheme, “Gosamrudhi,” offering protection to dairy farmers and their cattle, has been launched in Ernakulam district, Kerala. The initiative, a joint venture between the Central and State governments under the National Livestock Mission, covers risks such as animal death and reduced milk yield.
Both general category and Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) farmers are eligible. Premiums are subsidized by the government and Kerala Feeds Limited. For an animal valued at approximately ₹65,000, the annual premium is ₹1,356 for general category farmers and ₹774 for SC/ST farmers. Three-year premiums are ₹3,319 and ₹1,892 respectively. The scheme also includes a ₹5 lakh accident cover for farmers for a premium of just ₹100.
All 3,325 milch animals in the district and their owners are automatically enrolled. Farmers can contact their local veterinary centers for more information and enrollment.
