Tue Mar 04 03:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Chivas Appoints Gerardo Espinoza as New Head Coach
**Guadalajara, Mexico** – Club Deportivo Guadalajara (“Chivas”) announced today the appointment of Gerardo Espinoza as their new head coach. Espinoza, 43, will lead the team for the remainder of the Clausura 2025 season and the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Espinoza boasts an impressive resume, including two Liga de Expansión MX titles (Clausura 2020 and Clausura 2023), the Liga de Expansión MX Campeón de Campeones (Apertura 2022-Clausura 2023), and a gold medal with the Mexico U-23 national team at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games. His experience also includes coaching Aucas (Ecuador), Tapatío and Tampico Madero (Liga de Expansión MX), Atlas (Liga MX), and the Mexico U-23 national team. Throughout his 165-game career as a manager, he has compiled a record of 59 wins, 57 draws, and 49 losses.
His familiarity with Chivas’s players is a key asset. During his time coaching Chivas’s affiliate team, Tapatío, from Apertura 2022, he frequently utilized four players who now feature in the first team: Eduardo García, Mateo Chávez, Raúl Martínez, and Miguel Gómez. His possession-based style of play, emphasizing both ball control and strong defensive pressure, aligns with the team’s recent tactical approaches.
Chivas expressed confidence in Espinoza’s ability to lead the team to success, welcoming him back to the organization.
