Mon Mar 03 16:06:14 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Nursing College Expels Five Students for Ragging

**Thiruvananthapuram, March 3, 2025** – Five students at the Government College of Nursing in Kottayam have been expelled following a ragging incident that has sparked outrage in Kerala. Health Minister Veena George announced the dismissals during the Assembly’s Question Hour on Monday, stating that the incident had “shocked the conscience of Kerala society.”

The five students, who were already under suspension, will be formally dismissed with the issuance of a government order. Minister George confirmed that this was their first such offense, and no prior complaints of ragging had been lodged against them.

However, the Minister also acknowledged serious failures by the college administration. Consequently, the college principal and the assistant warden responsible have been suspended.

The government has pledged to take stringent action to prevent future incidents of ragging, ensuring strict adherence to University Grants Commission guidelines across all colleges under the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), including the effective operation of anti-ragging cells. The announcement follows a question raised by Congress MLA Sajeev Joseph regarding the action taken in response to the incident.
