Tue Mar 04 09:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Taiwanese Celebrity Wang Dalu Faces Backlash for Alleged Draft Dodging
**Taipei, Taiwan** – Popular Taiwanese actor Wang Dalu is facing intense public scrutiny after allegations surfaced that he spent millions of New Taiwan dollars to forge medical documents to avoid mandatory military service. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for stricter legislation.
Taipei League (台聯黨) Chairperson Chou Ni-an (周倪安) criticized the perceived leniency of the current legal system. Wang Dalu was only fined NT$300,000, a sum Chou described as negligible compared to the actor’s considerable income from endorsements and appearances. Chou argued that the light penalty effectively encourages similar behavior among wealthy individuals and celebrities.
While praising the ongoing investigation into the criminal network allegedly assisting Wang Dalu in forging documents, Chou highlighted a key weakness in the current law. Article 3 of the “Act Governing Offenses Against Military Service” (妨害兵役治罪條例) allows for a penalty of up to five years imprisonment, but lacks a minimum sentence. This loophole, Chou argued, emboldens potential draft dodgers. The Taipei League is urging lawmakers to amend the law to include a minimum sentence of one year’s imprisonment, creating a stronger deterrent against future instances of draft evasion. The party contends that escaping military service is a dereliction of civic duty and unfair to those who fulfill their obligations.
